UNDER 10A MATCH REPORT 2.3.08
COULSDON ATHLETIC A 1 CROYDON ATHLETIC A 2
The game at Coulsdon was a close affair, both teams feeling each other out, in the potential League decider and rehearsal for the League Cup Final.
A clash of heads between Jason Akiotu and Coulsdons main striker left them both down and injured for 5 minutes early on, but both recovered to battle on.
Athletic scored two fine goals by Tarik Maizi and then Jamel Johnson, both tremendous cross shots across the Coulsdon keeper, before Jake O’Brien hit the bar with a free kick, which could have had the game won by half time.
On the occasions Coulsdon threatened, goalkeeper Ross Sutton was calm and very assured and he would go on to make two fine saves in the second half to preserve the lead.
The second half saw Coulsdon attack as they had to and Croydon always looked dangerous on the break, with Rex Cobham again doing a wonderful job as the lone striker.
Coulsdon's main striker was man marked throughout the game by Man of The Match (again!!) William Dumbili.
On the one occasion he did get away from William, Ross in goal denied him with a good save.
Coulsdon pulled a goal back with 5 minutes left and a tense finish to the game in which either side could have scored again. Ross in goal denying a certain equaliser with his feet. The 2-1 win put Athletic 5 points clear at the top, and the result gave Wickham Wanderers the chance to close in on second spot and become Athletic’s main contenders for the title.

Cheers Donna- good to see you had a good win too on Sunday.
Have worked out the boys need 11 points out of the last 12 to clinch the league, but in reality it may well be less as the two sides 2nd and 3rd still have to play each other twice, so someone if not both will drop points.
Its really between us Coulsdon and Wickham Wanderers now, so we may seem a long way ahead but we are not taking anything for granted, as the others have games in hand, although I would rather have points in the bag at this stage of the season. We want to clinch the league, then stay unbeaten, then win the cup as well- greedy or what!
I just hope it doesn't all fall flat- but if the boys keep going the way they are I'm sure we will be fine.
I think all 3 mini teams have had a great season, as well as the older boys who have all done well- especially Peter Coles team- top of the A division and semi finalists in the Surrey Cup.
