Athletic moved within one point of top spot with a hard earned win against a spirited Balgowan side.

Despite having the majority of posession, Athletic found it hard to break down Balgowan, who looked dangerous on the counter attack.

A close first half saw the deadlock broken with two fine goals by Bryan Obonyeo in the last five minutes of the first half.

Danu Shiyamaleswaran scored a third virtually immediately from the re-start.

That seemed to settle Athletic down, who then played some delightful football, and a superb run by Man of the Match Jeffrey Dankwa down the right saw his superb cross headed in by Josh Galloway for the goal of the game, midway through the second half.

Another fine win was sealed by a fine goal by Imran Salim close to full time, but Athletic can play better and their fine unbeaten league run, going back to last October, has lifted them into a challenging position for one one of the top two places in this division.

Harder tests will come, but with a fine team spirit, this team can progress still further in the league.
