TANDRIDGE LEAGUE UNDER 14 CENTRAL DIVISION

ST ANDREWS 0 CROYDON ATHLETIC A 4

Athletic gave a tremendous performance against the team 2nd in the Division at start of play.

A tight game was expected and keeper Stewart Sutton made 2 fine saves early on before Bryan Oboneyo scored with a fine shot.

Athletic almost scored immediately from the re-start but were denied by the bar and post.

St Andrews then dominated and pressed hard for an equaliser, but the defence, particularly Jeffrey Dankwa played superbly.

Danu Shiyamaleswaran then scored a fine second goal latching on to a superb through ball by Bryan. That seemed to knock the stuffing out of St Andrews and just after the re-start Joel Nesbeth, who had worked hard all game scored a well deserved third.

Joel has now scored in every game since Athletics last league defeat way back in October.

Athletic then pressed for more goals and only fine saves by St Andrews keeper kept the score down.

Bryan then scored his second goal with a free kick from outside the box which beat the keeper and two defenders stood on the line. Goal of the Season? It certainly is a contender.

"Bend it like Bryan" came the shouts from the Athletic fans on the touchline.

Stewart in goal then made two fine saves, bravely diving at the feet of the St Andrews forwards as they came one on one with him.

Manager Paul Standen was very pleased with everyones performance, as the league double had now been achieved against one of the contenders for the league title.

Athletic remain 5th, but just 2 points behind St Andrews as the race for 2nd place hots up. With Wallington Wanderers seemingly well ahead, 2nd place is the target and with the games to come, if Athletic continue this form, anything is possible.
